摘要 PURPOSE:To improve the performance of a fuel cell by actively using a flow passage part at the side of a separator as a region for mixing reaction gases with formation or inert gases and increasing the concentration of reaction gases on the surface of an electrode for quickening the diffusion of gases to the reaction surface of the electrode. CONSTITUTION:A half of reaction gases flows in a flow passage 17a, put electrochemical reaction takes place on an electrode 16, thereby consuming hydrogen in the flow passage 17a and generating formation gases composed of water and carbonic acid. The remaining half of the reaction gases, however, flows in another flow passage 17b and no chemical reaction takes place, thereby allowing the gases to pass a flow passage board 13 in the same state as at an inlet. Then, another flow passage board 14 having the same construction as the board 13 is so positioned at the downstream of a flow passage 13 as to be dislocated by half a pitch in a direction orthogonal with a flow. As a result, the reaction gases after the flow passage 17a at the side of the electrode 16 flow at the separator side of a flow passage 18b and no formation gas is generated. Consequently, the concentration of gases generated at the flow passage 17a comes to be unified due to the diffusion of hydrogen gases. And a plurality set of the flow passage boards 13 and 14 arranged in a flow direction improve the distribution of hydrogen concentration every time the reaction gases flow in separator side passages like the flow passages 17b and 18b.
