PURPOSE: To make the pressure drop of a process fluid small, to maintain a high and uniform heat transfer rate, and to effectively utilize a catalyst, by arranging group passages in a catalyst chamber formed by two walls uniformly parted from each other in a specific state. CONSTITUTION: The two walls 19, 20 substantially uniformly parted from each other of the catalyst chamber are, for example, coaxial cylindrical walls. The catalyst chamber is annularly formed and the flow direction over the entire part of the process fluid is parallel with the coaxis of these cylindrical walls. The branch flow direction flowing in the passages 17, 18 and the flow direction over the entire part have an angle of about 45 deg. and the one group branch flow direction is substantially parallel with the adjacent group branch flow direction and is different. Consequently, the respective branch flows are inverted in all the flow direction immediately when these flows arrive at one transmission wall and, therefore, the temp. difference between the passage outlet and the passage inlet diminishes and the branch flows frequently come into contact with the heat transfer walls, by which the branch flows are uniformly heated. The contact with the catalyst is forcibly and continuously executed by having the angle. |
