An illuminance controller of a light source for use in an endoscope or the like, including a diphragm for cutting a light beam generated by the light source to control an illuminance of the light beam, in which the light beam cut amount of the diaphragm is controlled by a diaphragm controller, and in which the illuminance of the light beam cut by the diaphragm varies with respect to a driving amount of a drive motor in accordance with an exponential function.
