NEW MATERIAL:A glycoprotein having a molecular weight of 100,000+ or -10,000 Dalton measured by SDS-PAGE under non-reducing condition and 150,000+ or -10,000 Dalton measured by gel-filtration under non-reducing condition, exhibiting single peak by reversed-phase HPLC, having a specific activity of 1X10<8> unit/mg and a cysteine content of >=4.0% in the protein part, acting to marrow cell of mammal and effective in promoting the differentiation and proliferation of monocyte-macrophage. USE:Diagnostic and remedying agent for leukopenia. Remedy for infectious diseases. PREPARATION:The objective marrow cell differentiation and proliferation factor can be produced, e.g., by culturing fibroblast cell of mouse (FERM P-1568) under serum-free condition, concentrating the supernatant of the cultured product, adjusting the pH, removing the insoluble components, treating with an anion exchange material at pH5.0-7.5, adsorbing the eluted fraction to a hydrophobic adsorbent at pH6.0-8.0, concentrating the eluted fraction and purifying the concentrate by gel-filtration and reversed-phase ion chromatography.
