TREATMENT OF NON-SPECIFIC INFLAMMATION

PURPOSE: To treat a nonspecific inflammation by administering ICAM-1 or an antagonist bondable to ICAM-1 so as to prevent intercellular adhesion between a granulocyte and an endothelial cell. CONSTITUTION: ICAM-1 bondable to a granulocyte or its functional derivative (e.g. fragment, variant or analog) is administered, preferentially bonded to a granulocyte to inhibit granulocyte-endothelial cell adhesion or an antibody (e.g. monoclonal antibody R6-5-D6) bondable to an endothelial cell or to ICAM-1, its fragment or ICAM-1 nonimmune globulin antagonist is administered and is preferentially bonded to ICAM-1 on an endothelial cell to inhibit granulocyte- endothelial cell adhesion and to treat inflammations (e.g. adult respiratory distress syndrome, multiple organ injury syndrome secondary to septicemia and reperfusion injury of tissue) caused by response of nonspecific control system.
