The invention relates to a new type of otoscope: the family otoscope. Family instrument for ear hygiene, the otoscope according to the invention is adapted to individual use, it comprises: a body 1 carrying a light source accommodating standard batteries 2 and bulb 3, and at least one head 10 which may or may not be removable, with an unbreakable eyepiece 14, and a speculum 13 of non-harmful material comprising a stop 13a for limiting the insertion into the auditory meatus. The channel to be observed is illuminated using a piece 12 of transparent plastic, which transmits the light rays from the bulb 3 towards the orifice 13b of the speculum 13. <IMAGE>
