PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set whose received volume is adjustable through shaking. SOLUTION: This portable telephone is provided with a sensor to detect a time period while the telephone set is shaken, a receiver 2 that provides the output of a voice signal of an opposite party, a received volume adjustment circuit 5 that amplifies the voice signal of the opposite party outputted from the receiver 2, a processor 7 that controls a volume amplification factor of the circuit 5 based on a sensing signal from the sensor to adjust the received volume. Through the above configuration, the received volume is adjusted by shaking the portable telephone set. In the case of using an angle sensor 4 to detect shaking of the telephone set, the angle sensor 4 detects movement of a ball and the processor 7 recognizes a shaking time and compares it with a predetermined time to adjust the received volume.
