A data processing apparatus loads a program from a removable storage medium in a reader. During the execution of the program, the medium is removed from the reader and replaced with a second storage medium holding data for the program. The program then continues to execute using data read from the second medium. The program may be a game or karaoke program and the data may be game data or song data. The storage medium may store audio data and associated description data in audio tracks. The storage media may be optical disks such as compact discs. A menu may be used to select data from the removable storage media.
