PURPOSE:To obtain the metallic thin film magnetic head of high performance without variance by setting an objective track less than twice as much as a film thickness and selecting it to be 0.74<=d2/d1<=1.35 when the film thickness of metallic films which are generated to be angular and whose top are flat on a substrate are set to the d1 and d2 on both sides of the tops. CONSTITUTION:Right and left core half bodies have same constitution. In the right half body, the metallic magnetic film 1 is provided on the angular substrate 6 with a prescribed grade, and SiO2 film 2 and a Cr film 3 are laminated. A glass 4 is provided on the Cr film 3 and the top is made flat. The flat tops of the core half bodies face each other through a gap material 5 and the part of the gap material between the tops makes a head gap. The track width TW of the head gap is set to 0.3-1.2-multiplied d1 and d2 being the thickness of the metallic magnetic film 1, and is selected to be 0.74<=d2/d1<=1.35. The magnetic films 1 can be multi-layer. The substrate 6 can either be a ferrite substrate or a non-magnetic substrate. With such constitution, variance in performance with respect to the track width is reduced and performance adjusted to the track width can be obtained. |
