The data storage device includes a magnetisable storage disk, a read/write magnetic head, which is arranged on the flying skid of a flying element, and also a tracking system for guiding the magnetic head along a data track with the aid of a servo head. The intention of the tracking system is to ensure continuous and exact guidance of the magnetic head. For this purpose, it is provided according to the invention that, apart from at least one guide track (14a, 14b) recorded discretely into the storage disk (3), the data tracks (9a to 9d) of the storage disk serve at the same time as further guide tracks (11) and that in the region of the flying skid (5), laterally offset with respect to the magnetic head (8), there is arranged a magneto-resistive sensor (10) as a servo head, which is subdivided into two component pieces (10a, 10b) arranged next to each other. In addition, electronics connected downstream of the sensor (10) comprise means for rectifying the signals picked off at the component parts (10a, 10b) of the sensor. <IMAGE>
