The I.C. engine has six cylinders divided into two groups (1 to 3 and 4 to 6). The two sets of action inlets are divided by a central partition (18) following the inlet valve (16). This forms two inlet channels (12a, 12b) the channel (12a) for the second group (4 to 6) having another valve (20). The exhaust channel (14) is divided into two channels (14a, 14b) by a curved dividing plate (22). The end of the exhaust channel is fitted with a catalytic exhaust gas cleaning device. When the engine is operating under heavy load conditions, both valves (16, 20) are open. At low loads, the first valve is open and the second valve closes. The second group has a by pass channel (28) between its outlet channel (14b) and inlet channel (12a) and a valve (34) controlling it is opened. |
