In order to reduce the operating noise in the case of a burner for gaseous or liquid fuel for the production of hot gas, with a nozzle, from which a fuel jet enters a mixing tube, with a multi-hole screen which surrounds the outlet of the nozzle and subdivides a burner housing into an upstream-situated antechamber receiving the nozzle and a downstream-situated combustion chamber receiving the mixing tube, with a central passage in the multi-hole screen for the passage of the fuel jet escaping from the nozzle, and with a number of openings in the multi-hole screen which surround the passage and through which combustion air from the antechamber enters the mixing tube, is proposed that there is arranged in front of the multi-hole screen, upstream and at a distance therefrom, a second screen which has at least one opening for the passage of combustion air.
