MOLTEN METAL LEVEL CONTROL IN CONTINUOUS CASTING

Level of molten metal in a number of vertical continuous or semi- continuous conventional casting units is controlled during the start- up period. Sensors simultaneously and precisely measure metal level to generate signals. When the level in any unit reaches a predetermined level, a set point signal is generated, increasing in magnitude with respect to time and representing a level which rises to a final level over a period of time. Signals from each unit are compared with the increasing set point signal and the flow of metal is regulated in response to difference.
