A mineral substance derived from clay and/or clay minerals contains a mineral from the smectite group and at least one substance which catalyses absorption, adsorption and/or reaction with noxious substances contained in solid, liquid or gaseous media, and has an open porosity of at least 20 vol.% and preferably 50 to 80 vol.%.
