In the case of the arrow projectile having a conical discarding sabot, with the conical discarding sabot separation being actuated by centrifugal force, in order to prevent the rotation rate (spin) of the conical discarding sabot being transmitted to the arrow projectile as the projectile passes through the barrel, the connection from the conical discarding sabot to the arrow projectile is designed as a low-friction rotating bearing or as a screw and nut, in the case of which the tangent to the pitch angle is designed to be equal to or slightly greater than the coefficient of friction between the projectile shaft and the bore in the conical discarding sabot. As it passes through the barrel, the conical discarding sabot then completes a helical movement about the barrel shaft in the direction of the projectile nose (the projectile not completing any rotational movement, or completing only a slight rotational movement, about the longitudinal axis). When the projectile emerges from the firing barrel, the centrifugal force acting (at right angles to the firing direction) on the individual segments of the conical discarding sabot causes the discarding sabot to separate from the projectile. In order to assist the separation process, the front mouth of the thread on the projectile shaft can be designed as a conical extension of the projectile nose. When the front part of the conical discarding sabot runs onto the conical thread mouth, as a result of the helical movement, the individual segments of the conical discarding sabot are spread apart. The separation process is thus assisted.
