Two lever arms, which are fastened on a central shaft fitted centrally on a basic carrier, parallel to the imaginary longitudinal axis, convey a load onto the passenger-vehicle roof or downwards when the central shaft rotates through 180@. The load is fastened on the lever arms by couplings. The energy for the rotation of the central shaft is supplied by an electric motor with worm gearing. The stepping down which is further necessary is achieved in that the central shaft is designed, in itself, as a gearing mechanism. The gearing mechanism is made up of the components; spindle, spindle nut, half-bar and outer tube. Grooves of a defined pitch are milled in the inner tube. The semi-circular spindle nut filling the half-tube has cam strips, of the same pitch and number. Together with the spindle nut, the half-bar, which is fastened rigidly to the spindle nut of the basic carrier, fills the inner tube. If the spindle, mounted rotatably on two crossmembers, is then rotated by the motor, the spindle nut, kept by the half-bar, moves back and forth, the cams which engage into the grooves effecting a 180@-rotation of the central shaft.
