PURPOSE:To improve the heat resistance of a plastic optical fiber by using polycarbonate contg. >=40mol.% specified monomer unit as shell material. CONSTITUTION:Polycarbonate contg. at least 40mol.% monomer unit expressed by the formula (wherein R is -CF3) is used as shell material for a plastic optical fiber constituted of a plastic core and a plastic shell. Suitable core material is polycarbonate, polystyrene, or homo- or copolymer of methacrylate represented by poly(methyl methacrylate) having high heat resistance. By this constitution, thermal transition phenomenon is not caused in the shell resin within a range between -100 deg.C and a glass transition point observed at about 150 deg.C. The optical fiber is usable even at 150 deg.C depending on the kind of the material of the core. |
