PURPOSE:To reinforce a metallic base material and to improve the durability thereof by incorporating a fibrous material in the metallic base material, overlaying a metal on the machined part thereof and machining the same. CONSTITUTION:For example, a blank material 10 for a piston is made by solidifying a liquid metallic base material in which a fibrous material is incorporated. The outside circumferential surface 12 and through-hole 14 for a piston pin of the piston 10 are so formed as to be undersized from the final finish size. The surface 12 and the hole 14 are parts to be machined, on which an overlaying member having a good fit to the metallic base material is overlaid to form an overlaid part A. Annular grooves 16 for mounting piston rings are cut in the part A and the surface 12 and the hold 14 of the piston 10 are machined to required sizes. |
