The subject-matter of the invention is a method and device for monitoring the functional condition of output stage circuits for electromotor-driven or electromagnetic control elements. A switch-on signal, which is periodically interrupted by short-term switch-off signals, is fed to the output stage circuits at each time of a switch-on command. The duration of the switch-off signals is so matched to the reaction time of the control elements that the latter respond either not at all or in an insignificant manner.
