PURPOSE:To make it possible to speedily copy the same image and to obtain images with high gradations, by removing a vapordeposited film layer of a transfer material in a pattern corresponding to a recording signal by an electrical or optical means. CONSTITUTION:An electrical or optical means is an electric discharge, laser light, heat ray or other similar means. The laser light is effective for enhancing gradation. A vapordeposited film layer 10 on the surface of a transfer material 11 fed along a platen 14 is removed by laser light 13 emitted from a laser light source 12. By irradiating the vapor-deposited film layer with the laser light 13 controlled by an image signal, an image is recorded as a removal pattern of the film layer. A transfer material 18 having the vapor-deposited film layer removed in part is superposed on an image-receiving material 17 comprising a dyeable layer 16 on an image-receiving material base 15, and they are irradiated with heat rays supplied by a heat generating light source 19 and a reflector 20 from the base side of the transfer material 18, whereby a sublimable dye in a coloring material layer of the transfer material 18 is thermally transferred into the dyeable layer 16 of the image-receiving material 17 through the parts at which the vapor-deposited film layer is removed. |
