A sewing machine drive transmission, comprises a motor which is interconnectable with a driven shaft via a clutch-brake unit consisting of a single disc fixed on the driven shaft, and having a clutch surface confronting a motor-driven clutch lining, with an air gap between which is automatically readjusted, specifically by a mechanism including a heat-responsive bimetallic member. The clutch- brake unit includes a brake system, and separate coils operate the disc to engage the clutch or brake, specifically by axially moving the driven shaft.
