In an apparatus for comminuting refuse, straw, fruit, etc., a feed shute (1) is provided, as well as a cylindrical roller (3) which is mounted so as to be rotatable about a horizontal axis (2) and on which radially projecting bolts (10) are provided as comminution tools. The roller (3) having the projecting bolts (10) almost closes the cross-section of the feed shute (1) at the bottom. Arranged on the region below the roller (3) and opposite the feed shute is a grating (12) which approximately follows the envelope radius of the rotating roller (3). Provided below this apparatus there is, furthermore, an ejection funnel (6), the frame (11) being mounted on the floor via supporting feet (7, 8). The material to be comminuted is placed, in the arrow direction (13), in the feed shute (1), taken along by the bolts (10) of the roller (3), correspondingly comminuted and then removed via the ejection funnel.
