In a continuously variable speed transmission having a hydraulic pump (P), a hydraulic motor (M), a hydraulic closed circuit hydraulically connecting the pump with the motor, a control apparatus comprises a slip sensor (61,63) for detecting slip of the driving wheels and hydraulic control means (20) for lowering hydraulic pressure in the hydraulic closed cirucit in accordance with magnitude of the slip of the wheels, in such a way that the driving force of the driving wheels is reduced less than a slip limit force.
