PURPOSE:To facilitate the replacement of a ribbon case and to enable a printing to be continued immediately after the replacement, by shifting a carriage to the center when a ribbon end detection means detects the rear end of an ink ribbon and shifting the carriage to a position stored in a memory means when a cover of a cabinet is closed. CONSTITUTION:When the output condition of a tape end sensor 30 was identified and that a ribbon tape 28 reached the rear end thereof was judged, a ribbon case 29 is lowered. Data representing the position of a carriage 31 at this time is stored in a memory 8a, and the carriage 31 is shifting to a position stored in a memory 8b. If data indicating the center position in the action range of the carriage 31 is stored in the memory 8b, the carriage 31 is shifted to the center where the ribbon case 29 can be easily replaced. After that, a cover 36 is opened to replace the case 29, thereafter being closed again. Then, the sensor 30 judges the close of the cover 36, whereby the carriage 31 is returned to the position stored in the memory 8a, a ribbon case 29 is lifted until facing a type, and a printing is restarted. |
