PURPOSE:To obtain a separator covered plate which is easy to handle and has good workability by applying an adhesive to the periphery of one surface of a composite separator obtained by sticking a glass mat and a microporous sheet, and press-bonding to both surfaces of a belt-like plate, then cutting in a required dimension. CONSTITUTION:Active material 17 is filled in a continued expanded grid 6 made of lead or lead alloy which is molded in two runs with an active material filling machine 16, then lugs 5 are cut with a plate lug cutter 13 to manufacture belt-like plates 7, 7'. A belt-like microporous sheet 11a and a belt-like glass mat 11b are coated with an adhesive 4' and press-bonded to form a belt-like composite separator 10. The composite separator 10, whose one side periphery is coated with an adhesive 4, is supplied to both sides of each of plates 7, 7', and pressed with a press-bonding roller 15 to bond upper and lower separators 10. Plates covered with separators are cut in a required width dimension to obtain a covered electrode 9. |
