PURPOSE: To inexpensively manufacture a color filter by printing by arraying color filter pixels capable of selectively transmitting light of three primary colors of red, green and blue in the vicinity of the image forming surface of an enlarged projection image corresponding to a display picture on an electro- optical cell. CONSTITUTION: Black-and-white picture light generated by transmitting light through a liquid crystal display cell 40 is colored after successively transmitting the light through a projection lens 50 and a color filter 70. A black-and-white image formed on the cell 40 is enlarged and projected to a screen 80 as a color image. Since a pixel pattern on the cell 40 is enlarged and formed on the screen 80, the filter 70 in contact with the screen 80 can enlarge the array pitch of pixels of three primary colors, i.e., red, green and blue, by the enlargement ratio of the lens 50. Consequently a request for working accuracy at the time of manufacturing the color filter 70 can be sharply relaxed and the color filter 70 can be manufactured by printing. |
