PURPOSE:To obtain the title material providing a high quality and a high contrast image, and capable of making high contrast technique applicable to said material for roomlight handling by incorporating a prescribed amount of silver chloride, a metallic salt of rare earth elements and a specified compd. in a silver halide emulsion layer. CONSTITUTION:The silver halide emulsion layer contains at least 60mol.% silver halide, the metallic salt of the rare earth elements of 1X10<-9>-1X10<-5>mol. per 1mol. of silver halide, and at least one kind of the compd. shown by the formula wherein R1 and R<2> are each aryl group or a heterocyclic ring group, R is a divalent org. group, (n) and (m) are each 0 or 1. The usable silver halide may be any one selected from the group comprising for example, silver chloride, silver chlorobromide, silver chloroiodide and silver chlorobromoiodide, and contains >=60mol.% silver chloride. The metallic salt of the rare earth elements is preferably exemplified by a water soluble metallic halide of the rare earth elements. The compounding amount of the compd. shown by the formula is preferably in a range of 1X10<-4>-1X10<-2>mol., more preferably in a range of 5X10<-3>-5X10<-2>mol. per 1mol. of the silver halide. |
