The present invention relates to a method for determining the coordinates of the points of the outline of an object in space. This method is characterised in that it consists in making at least three successive measurements of the position of at least one point S on the object 1 to be measured, whilst moving an imaging device 2 which takes the measurements, in a plane P1, P2, P3 or in space, between each measurement, and in processing the image obtained on each measurement so as on each occasion to determine all or some of the coordinates of the point or points S, on the basis of which are defined the virtual straight lines joining the coordinates of the point or points S to the optical centre A1, A2, A3 of the imaging device 2, the intersections S1, S2, S3 of which straight lines determine a volume V containing at least three coordinates of the point or points S to be measured in an orthonormal system X, Y, Z, the data processing being carried out by means of a computer system, and the imaging device 2 being controlled manually, automatically, or by means of a computer. <IMAGE>
