PURPOSE: To obtain a germicidal composition useful for surgical works, showing synergistic effects, by combining a chlorhexidine salt as a germicidal compound with a specific amount of a surfactant and further adding an aromatic alcohol, an inert diluent or a carrier to the mixture. CONSTITUTION: This germicidal composition comprises (A) a chlorhexidine salt (especially preferably chlorhexidine digluconate, preferably about 1-4wt.% based on the composition), (B) an aromatic alcohol (especially preferably 2- phenoxyethanol or benzyl alcohol, preferably about 1-2wt.%), (C) <=10wt.% of a surfactant [especially a polyoxyethylene/polyoxypropylene block copolymer of the formula ((a), (b) and (c) are each an integer) having 1,000-1,600 molecular weight] and (D) an inert diluent or carrier (especially preferably water) and is suitable for skin cleaning and disinfection. |
