PURPOSE:To economically obtain the title compound, by using a specific electrodialyzer, feeding an aqueous solution of an amino acid alkali metal salt to a chamber composed of a cation side of a double-polar membrane and a cation exchange membrane, feeding water to a chamber composed of an anion side of a double-polar membrane and a cation exchange membrane and performing electrodialysis. CONSTITUTION:The electrodialyzer 1 used in the present process contains a plurality of cation exchange membranes 4 and double-polar membranes 5 alternately disposed between an anode 2 and a cathode 3 facing the cation side of the double-polar membrane toward the cathode. The cation side chamber 6 of the double-polar membrane is supplied with an amino acid alkali metal salt and the anion side chamber 7 of the double-polar membrane is supplied with water or a dilute alkali solution. The cathode chamber 8 and the anode chamber 9 positioned at both ends of the electrodialyzer are charged with preferably caustic alkali used in the electrodialyzer. Amino acid is taken out from the cation side chamber 6 of the double-polar membrane continuously or intermittently after a prescribed electrification period and an alkali is taken out from the anion side chamber 7 of the double-polar membrane. |
