PURPOSE:To apply a polishing work on the tip of the optical fiber of the central part of a ferrule accurately in a spherical surface, by a method wherein the curvature of the polishing surface of the polishing tray of each of a plurality of polishing devices with which a polishing line is formed is gradually decreased toward the downstream side in the transfer direction of the ferrule. CONSTITUTION:A curvature of radius RB of a polishing surface 8A of a polishing disc 2A for rough polishing is decreased to a value lower than a curvature of radius RB of a polishing surface 8B of a polishing disc 2B for middle polishing. The curvature of radius RB is decreased to a value lower than a curvature of radius RC of a polishing surface 8C of a polishing disc 2C for finish polishing. As a result, even when the tip of an optical fiber 73 is polished in a radius RA in a recessed state through rough polishing, the projected part of a ceramic-filled layer 72 is cut off by middle polishing and finish polishing, the optical fiber 73 at the central part of the tip of a ferrule 1 and the tip of the ceramic-filled layer 72 therearound are polished accurately in a sphere surface with the radius of RC. |
