In an internal combustion engine with oil-air cooling or even with full oil cooling, it is necessary to dimension the oil feed pump accordingly since it must deliver 2-3 times the quantity of oil compared to an air-cooled or water-cooled engine. The oil pump required for this is of such large overall volume that it cannot be accommodated inside the crankcase without structurally enlarging the overall engine size. The relatively large oil feed pump is shifted outside the engine and flange-mounted on the crankcase where it is easily accessible in the event of repairs and is easily replaceable at no great cost. The drive is achieved by incorporation into the toothed belt drive of the camshaft or else by means of a gear drive. <IMAGE>
