A respective measured value amount, determined by a measured-value transmitter, is compared with a minimum value and the upper limit value of the measuring range. In the case of under- or overshooting of a threshold value between the minimum value and upper limit value, the measured value amount is assigned to the minimum value or to the upper limit value. In the case of assignment to the minimum value, a correction contributing to reducing the difference between the measured value amount and the minimum value is made to the minimum value in two stages. Only in the event of over- or undershooting of a primary correction stage is the minimum value stored in a correction main stage raised or lowered. In the case of assignment to the upper limit value, a correction contributing to reducing the difference between the measured value amount and the upper limit value is made to the measuring sensitivity, likewise in two stages. <IMAGE>
