<p>PURPOSE:To absorb kinetic energy by providing at least one ring member formed of plastic material in a ring-shape between a structural element and a construction. CONSTITUTION:A pipeline 2 is coupled with a building 8 through a damping device, which is composed of a rod 4 to be connected to the pipeline 2 and plural plastically deformable square ring members 5 serially connected with bolts 7, and fixed to a construction such as a building through a clevis bracket 6. When an earthquake or the like causes deformation along the pipeline 2, the square ring members 5 are subjected to bending and shearing actions, resulting in plastic deformation for absorbing kinetic energy. The quantity of absorbed energy is determined on an area enclosed with a hysteresis curve. The kinetic energy can therefore be absorbed even in case of the small displacement of the pipeline due to earthquake.</p> |
