PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component mounting apparatus and a component mounting method capable of precisely recognizing the position of an insertion hole while preventing increase in device cost and device size.SOLUTION: The component mounting apparatus includes: a board transfer mechanism 2 for positioning a board 3 (board positioning part); a support plate 21 on which a bottom support pin module 22 (bottom support pin) is disposed for supporting the bottom face of the board 3 positioned by the board transfer mechanism 2; an illumination unit 12a which is disposed above the board 3 to emit light downward; and a reflection module 30 (reflection member) which is detachably disposed on the support plate 21 to reflect upward the light emitted from the illumination unit 12a.
