PROCESS FOR PREPARING A TRANSITION METAL - SILICATE CATALYST

A transition metal-silicate catalyst is provided in which an insoluble basic compound of a transition metal with an atomic number of 26-30 is precipitated with an alkaline reagent from an aqueous solution of a metal salt. The resulting precipitate is allowed to mature in suspended form and subsequently sepd., dried and reduced. When most of the transition metal ions especially nickel have been precipitated soluble silicate especially sodium silicate is added. The maturing is for 5-180 min. at 60-105 deg.C.
