The invention relates to an apparatus for heating water, in particular a water-heating boiler, having a condensation chamber situated in the lower part, a neutralising device and a collecting container for the purified condensate, a water-spraying device being provided for spraying the flue gases in the condensation chamber. To reduce the fresh-water requirement considerably, according to the invention the collecting container is at least temporarily connected to the inlet of a pump by means of which the spraying device is operated. The inlet and outlet of condensate is controlled via a float valve.
