A process for the production of fibre-reinforced composite materials from inorganic, sinterable material and inorganic fibres, wherein the inorganic fibres are drawn continuously through a bath which operates on the fluidised bed principle and contains a solution of at least one metal alkoxide of the elements of main groups 1 to 4 and sub-groups 4 and 5 and an inorganic, sinterable, silicate powder and already contains hydrolysis products and polycondensation products thereof, and the fibres coated with the powder and the solution are wound up in layers one on top of the other, the coated and wound-up fibres are dried, the metal alkoxides are fully hydrolysed on the fibres, the hydrolysis products are polycondensed, and the layers of the fibres coated with the powder and the polycondensation products of hydrolysis products of the metal alkoxide are hot-pressed.
