According to the present invention, the relevant process parameters for the sump phase hydrogenation with integrated gas phase hydrogenation, with economical heat recovery is regulated such that despite increasing fouling of the mash heat exchanger and increasing deactivation of the gas phase catalyst the processrelevant temperatures of the intermediate separator and of the gas phase reactor are regulated definitively by a head cooler after the sump phase hyrdogenation and a head cooler before the intermediate separator, and the waste heat of the sump phase products is recovered in part by heating the gas phase charge substances and then being resupplied to the mash heating process.
