The refractory sleeve is for a roller transporting high-temp. metal products, its outer surface (2) forming a large number of alternate protrusions and recesses. The radial ridges of the protrusions define a cylindrical surface coaxial to that of the sleeve (1a). The surface can be formed by a hollow cylindrical component of a first refractory material, clad with a large number of bodies of a second such material. These are partly countersunk into its outside surface.
