PURPOSE:To perform maintenance of an equipment quickly and accurately with a computer by indicating both knowledge of a skilled maintenance engineer and a thinking process respectively on the computer as knowledge base in a memory and an inference engine executed on a CPU. CONSTITUTION:When the titled equipment is driven, an inference engine executed on a CPU 10 inputs any one of daily control data, performance test data or sampling catalytic evaluation test data as usable process data via an interactive input device 15. Then knowledge bases memorized in memories 11-13 respectively are set by the kind of these data and necessary data are read in respectively. Process data capable of being automatically measured from a plant indicate question contents on an indicator 16 via a process input device 14 and further data obtained by conversation with a user indicate question contents on the indicator 16 and answers are inputted via the interactive input device 15.
