PURPOSE:To obtain a crystal for a laser having a less coloring due to an exciting light and capable of growing a crystal of large size and high quality by respectively specifying x, y, z of single crystal having garnet structure represented by a chemical formula of Gd3-xNdxGa5-y-zAlyCrzO12 so as to be in specific composition ranges. CONSTITUTION:This crystal for a laser is of a single crystal of Gd3-xNdxGa5-y-zAlyCrzO12, and has a composition of 0.003<=x<=0.15, 0.05<=y<=2.5, 0.001<=z<=0.01. The amplitude of absorption generated by an exciting light in case of y>=0.05 in a base crystal composition formula Gd3Ga3-yAlyO12 from which Nd of active element and Cr of sensitizer are removed is approx. 1/2 of GGG. On the other hand, a remarkable effect is obtained in case of excessive absorption, and increased as the aluminum content is increased. The crystal of high quality cannot be obtained in case of y>2.5 irrespective of the presence or absence of an additive. Then, the quantity (x) of the Nd is, similarly to the case of GGG, any of 0.003 or more and 0.15 or more, and can be set in response to its utility. With respect to the quantity of the Cr, in case of Z<0.001, the effect cannot be recognized, and in case of Z>0.01, a preferable result is not obtained. |
