<p>A quick change tool holder (10) having a cutting head (12) on which a cutting member (22) is attached for attachment to a shank (14). A lockpin/locknut arrangement (16/18) provides for quick and safe removal of the cutting head (12) from the shank (14). The lockpin (16) has radial projections (48) that rotate in response to manual rotation of the lockpin (16) in and out of recesses (52) contained in the opening (53) of the locknut (18). The lockpin (16) is secured within a bore (24) in the cutting head (12) and extends out of that bore (24) into a bore (31) in the shank (14) in which bore (31) the locknut (18) is secured. A spring and plunger combination (58/54) is located in the bore (31) of the shank (14) in order to urge the cutting head (12) away from the shank (14) when the radial projections (48) are not within the recesses (52) of the locknut. The shank (14) and the cutting head (12) have corresponding mating teeth (38) in order to prevent rotation of the cutting head (12) relative to the shank (14) when the cutting head (12) and shank (14) are attached.</p> |
