<p>: The invention provides a panel for a roofing/siding system to overlie and cover a substrate. The system comprises a number of such panels in side-by-side interlocking relation, and clip means for securing the panels to the substrate. Each of the panels comprises a longitudinally extending pan having a pair of longitudinal edge portions. One of the longitudinal edge portions is bent to form a lock seam and the other of the longitudinal edge portions is bent to form a batten, the batten being configured to cover the lock seam of the adjacent panel in the system. The batten has a free end bent inwardly towards the pan and defining a lock lip. The lock lip has a neck terminating in a lock head. The lock seam comprises a three part bend including a transitional portion extending upwardly from the pan, an arch portion curving away from the transitional portion back and down towards the pan and a trough portion curving away from the arch portion and upwards from the pan. The trough portion and the pan define a gap therebetween for allowing the head of the lock lip to be inserted between the trough portion and the pan. The pan, the transitional portion and the arch portion define a receiving space in communication with the gap for receiving the lock head of the lock lip of the adjacent panel, the lock head being no larger than the receiving space, the gap being at least as wide as the neck of said lock lip. The arch and the trough portions are accessible from above for the clip means to hook over the arch portion and down into the trough portion for securing the panel to the substrate and for preventing the trough portion from flexing relative to the pan.</p> |
