The system has a main frame (1) on which is mounted a central drive shaft (2) and a carriage (3) supporting the magnetic heads that are moved radially across the disc using a stepping motor drive (4). A magnetic disc cassette (8) is loaded onto a loading lever (6) and is guided by side elements (7) coupled to the main housing. The head access to the disc with the cassette sleeve is made via a sliding cover (13) that is moved clear during insertion. As the insertion proceeds the cassette is located on the main drive spigot. Loading is controlled by a series of linkages (14,26,27) that also provide ejection of the cassette at the end of a play/record operation.
