Ready-mixed concrete mixers have hitherto been filled with the solid constituents cement and aggregates during the mixing motion of the drum, whereas the mixing water was added directly afterwards. In the novel process using a drum which can be charged through the drum casing, the starting time for commencement for operation of the ready-mixed concrete mixer is significantly reduced since the constituents may even be introduced into the concrete mixer on the previous evening. In this process, a layered cross-section is built up in the concrete mixer, the lowermost layer containing the mixing water. The cement is separated from the mixing water by at least one further layer of a further solid concrete constituent, so that mixing can only take place when the mixing motion of the drum is initiated.
