A process for the preparation of polymers of carbon monoxide with one or more olefinically unsaturated compounds, characterized in that carbon monoxide containing sulphur as sulphidic sulphur and/or iron as iron carbonyls is subjected to one or more purifying treatments by which the sulphur and/or iron contents are decreased, and in that the carbon monoxide thus purified is polymerized together with one or more olefinically unsaturated compounds by contacting the mixture with a palladium-containing catalytic composition.
