A new method of synthesis of nucleotide-sugars uses a catalyst prepared from an activated carrier and an extract of an organ or organism, to couple a nucleotide to a monosaccharide or a mono-saccharide-1-phosphate. The nucleotide-sugar is isolated from the product mixture. The carrier is partic. an activated polysaccharide, polymer or copolymer contg. active groups such as cyanate, organic sulphoante aldehyde etc. The use of the produce in a glycosyl transferase reaction for the production of oligosaccharides, or in other chemical, biological or medical applications is also claimed. - The nucleotides CTP, GDP, GTP and UTP, and the monosaccharide N-acetylneuramine acid are claimed. The use of an ox liver extract with cresyl activated agarose for the synthesis of CMP-Neu-5-Ac is partic. claimed. |
