In a method and a device for monitoring the advance of material to be punched in a punching machine or the like, in which an advancing member is in engagement during its movement in the direction of the punching tool (die) with the material to be punched and, thereafter, the advancing member returns, not in engagement with the material to be punched, to its starting position to carry out a new advance, provision is made, with a view to reliable positioning not fed by dirt on the part of the punching machine, irrespective of a specific type of punching machine, for the advance of the material to be punched for carrying out the punching operation to be monitored by a mechanical sensor in contact with the material to be punched during the advance, and for the advance of the punching machine to be stopped via an optical signal when the mechanical sensor comes into action in the intended punching position. |
