PURPOSE:To easily obtain the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals, especially as an intermediate for prostaglandin in high yield, by reacting a mixture of hydroxycyclopentenones with an aliphatic carboxylic acid, its acid anhydride and metal salt. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula III (R1 is H or 1-4C alkyl) can be produced by reacting (A) a mixture of hydroxycyclopentenones of formula I and formula II (R is H or 1-6C alkyl; n is 4-8) with (B) a <=5C aliphatic carboxylic acid (e.g. acetic acid), its acid anhydride and its metal salt (e.g. an aliphatic carboxylic acid lithium salt) in a solvent (e.g. THF) at 0-150 deg.C for 0.5-10hr. The amounts of the aliphatic carboxylic acid and the metal salt are >=1 times equivalent and 0.01-5 times equivalent based on the mixture of hydroxycyclopentenones, respectively and the amount of the aliphatic carboxylic acid anhydride is >=1 times equivalent based on the compound of formula II in the mixture of hydroxycyclopentenones. |
